AVI-8 Hawker Hunter Duke Chrono Colerne Gunmetal Blue
Inspired by a man, his fighter jet, and the world air speed record he broke in 1953. The Duke Chronograph, armed with a Meca-Quartz movement, is a modern interpretation of a pilot watch built with performance, speed, and precision in mind.
At 44mm, the Duke’s aggressive and substantial brushed case is balanced by elegantly tapered lugs with subtly polished chamfers. Modern inverted conical crowns are designed to pronounce the Hunter’s engine, yet remain functional for ease of use.
Bold and clear luminous applied indexes on a matte canvas are purposefully complemented by cleanly executed pops of color, providing an impeccable balance of components and legibility. Inset subdials and an inner turning countdown bezel provide for a watch built with performance, speed and accuracy in mind.
With timing and functionality in mind, the Duke is fitted with a bi-directional inner countdown bezel. The first 15 minutes use contrasting colors and dashed lines, referencing the warning marks by the Hunter’s canopy release lever.
Powering the Duke is the esteemed and dependable Seiko VK series Meca-Quartz chronograph. Quartz and battery precision coupled with mechanical gears and levers provide for a smooth sweep seconds hand, crisp pushers and instant zero snap back reset on the chronograph.
Custom-made and handcrafted from premium genuine leather, the Duke’s rally style straps add a sense of nostalgia and masculine vintage appeal fitting for a watch inspired by a man and plane that broke the world airspeed record. The solid steel case back depicts a custom designed Hunter with details of Duke’s world airspeed record set almost 70 years ago.
In a nod to the world airspeed record achieved by Duke in his WB188 Hunter Mk3 prototype, the colorways are aptly named after the RAF bases the aircraft has been stationed at, with its current residency RAF Tangmere.
